Al Schubert
Vice President, Managed Care, VSP

Al Schubert, Vice President-Managed Care & Strategic Alliances, has been with VSP since 1988 and began his career in sales and marketing in 1984. Al was originally a high school teacher and basketball coach. Located at the VSP Corporate Headquarters in Rancho Cordova, California, Mr. Schubert has the responsibility for two large sales divisions. One division includes the business development, retention and the marketing of all VSP products to Managed Care Organizations. He also leads similar efforts with regard to Strategic Alliances for VSP.

Mr. Schubert became Vice President at VSP in 1990 and has been a major contributor to the exponential growth of the organization. He regularly speaks at industry conferences and is one of the country’s authorities on eyecare delivery systems and strategic partnerships. Mr. Schubert focuses on the important role of preventative care in the early detection of serious health conditions manifested through the eyes–a key factor in managing disease, achieving the best outcomes, and ultimately reducing healthcare costs.

Al is a cum laude graduate of the University of San Francisco and the McLaren School of Business.

VSP provides eyecare benefit plans that range from comprehensive eye examinations and materials to primary eyecare medical services. By providing coverage for 51 million Americans, many large health plans and over half of all Fortune 500 corporations, one in six people in the United States relies on VSP for funded eyecare health coverage. In addition to providing exceptional benefit plans, VSP is a not for profit corporation and actively supports the community in many ways. One hallmark of that commitment, VSP's Sight for Students program, has helped 200,000 low-income/uninsured children receive free eyecare services since its inception in 1997.
