Cheryl Johnson
Vice President, Healthcare Services
VSP

Cheryl Johnson is the Vice President of Health Care Services for Vision Service Plan (VSP), a national managed eye and vision care company, headquartered in Rancho Cordova. She has been at VSP since 1993, and in her current role for fourteen years. In her capacity, Cheryl is responsible for developing and maintaining VSP’s network of over 23,000 private practice optometrists and ophthalmologists, and oversees functions such as doctor recruitment, credentialing, quality management, utilization management, reimbursement and regulatory compliance.  She also serves as staff liaison to two committees of the VSP Board of Directors.

Most recently Cheryl was responsible for leading a team of VSP employees to set up mobile eye care clinics to provide free replacement eyeglasses to Hurricane Katrina survivors. Care was provided to 10,000 people by VSP doctors whose own offices were destroyed in the disaster, as part of VSP’s overall Katrina Relief program.

Cheryl has nearly 20 years experience in the healthcare industry, serving in various leadership roles for managed healthcare plans prior to joining VSP.  It was in her role of managing quality and cost for Medicare members 15 years ago, that she became interested in the importance of regular eye care.   She continues these efforts today through the leadership of VSP’s Eye Health initiative, which demonstrates the critical role that regular eye exams have to an individual’s overall health and well being.

Cheryl recently joined the local board for the March of Dimes, and has served on the local board of American Diabetes Association for eleven years.

In 2006, she was named as one of the 50 Most Influential Women in the optical industry by Vision Monday magazine.
